HEAT-PULSE

GROUNDWATER FLOWMETERS

Kerfoot Technologies' GeoFlo   heat-pulse groundwater flow meters allow quick, accurate on-site determination of both flow and direction, as opposed to other means. USGS maps show only general regional groundwater flow directions. Dye tracers require the installation of numerous wells and take extended time to determine direction and rate of flow. Head height in wells gives direction, but not rate, of flow and requires three wells for triangulation. No other means can determine flow at a single well.

Use for determination of:

Hazardous waste plume track & source

     Fracture zone location

     Inflow-outflow analysis

Water supply positioning & zones of contribution

 Model 40 Specifications:
12 volt and 18 volt DC battery-powered controller in rugged polyethylene box.   Probe and cable on separate reel. Probe is separable from cable.   Probe is inserted into glass bead-filled fuzzy packer and then deployed into wells by use of interlocking aluminum rods, oriented by attached compass.   Eight thermistors (4 pairs) give most accurate horizontal flow determination.

Controlled by laptop computer and 12 volt DC interface box electronics.   Used for determination of vertical flow in wells or boreholes.   Pneumatic packers pack off against well screen or boreholes, forcing flow through center of packer and across a pair of thermistors and centralized heat source.   Deployed by means of interlocking aluminum rods.

Model 200 Specifications:
Controlled by laptop computer and 12 volt DC interface box electronics.   Used for determination of horizontal flow rate and direction.   Probe is inserted into fuzzy packer filled with 2mm glass beads, which is then inserted into slotted well screen.   Probe and packer unit deployed by means of interlocking aluminum rods, directed by attached magnetic compass.   Probe has 4 thermistors (2 pairs).
